Upaya Penanggulangan Tindak Pidana Perampasan Kendaraan Motor (Begal) Yang Menggunakan Senjata Tajam
Abstract
Motor vehicle robbery (begal) involving the use of sharp weapons is one of the most serious forms of violent crime that threatens public security, social order, and individual safety. The increasing level of violence committed by offenders requires comprehensive law enforcement strategies to effectively prevent and combat such crimes. This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to motor vehicle robbery involving sharp weapons and to examine the efforts undertaken by the Bangkalan Regional Police (Polres Bangkalan) in addressing this criminal offense. This research employed an empirical legal research method using a juridical-empirical approach. Primary data were collected through interviews with police officers at Polres Bangkalan, while secondary data were obtained from statutory regulations, legal literature, scientific journals, and relevant documents. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that motor vehicle robbery is influenced by several interrelated factors, including economic hardship, unfavorable social environments, low educational attainment, psychological conditions of offenders, weak social control, and the abuse of drugs and alcohol. Furthermore, the Bangkalan Regional Police have implemented integrated crime prevention strategies through preventive, repressive, and curative measures. Preventive efforts include routine patrols, crime prevention education, and the mapping of crime-prone areas, while repressive measures consist of criminal investigations, offender arrests, and law enforcement in accordance with applicable legal provisions. Curative efforts are carried out through offender rehabilitation to reduce recidivism. The study concludes that effective crime prevention requires strong collaboration among law enforcement agencies, government institutions, and the community through an integrated approach combining prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation.
